Accommodation
MARSA - Manchester Academy Residential Student Accommodation
Manchester Academy of English’s own self-catering student house is an easy 15-minute bus journey from our school and has local shopping and a
traditional open-air market just a few minutes walk away.
We can offer very large single bedrooms and very spacious double rooms (suitable for sharing) subject to availability. Please check availability and price
before booking. All rooms have their own shower and wash basin, some bedrooms are ensuite. All bills are included. A deposit is required before your
stay and this is refundable at the end of the licence period. A complete bedding pack including fitted sheet, mattress protector, duvet, duvet cover, pillow,
pillow case, towel, soap, toilet roll is included.
Homestay – half board accommodation with an English household
Our carefully selected host families offer friendly and comfortable accommodation. All our homestay accommodation is located on an easy bus/Metro/train,
journey approximately 40 minutes from the city centre. Hosts will provide you with breakfast and an evening meal. Our host may be a traditional family, a
single person or a couple. We do try to accommodate students’ special requests so please book early and we can try to provide exactly what you want.
Shared self catering student accommodation
All year round we are able to book you into privately owned self-catering student houses or university
residences. Please check availability before booking.
Homestay
1. If you need homestay accommodation, a placement service is offered. You need to pay in advance directly to Manchester Academy for the length
of time that you need the accommodation for.
2. If you require to extend your homestay, please advise us in advance as we cannot guarantee that you will be placed with the same host family.
3. You must inform your host family if you are unable to attend a meal or are intending to come back home later than planned.
4. You must ask your homestay’s permission to use any of their facilities, especially the phone line.
5. If you break or damage anything at your homestay, you must tell your host family and our Accommodation Officer immediately.
6. Please keep the house clean and tidy.
7. A week’s notice is required to book or cancel homestay, otherwise charges will occur.
8. By requesting Manchester Academy of English to arrange your accommodation, you are agreeing to the above terms.

How to apply for a course
1. All applicants must be aged 16 or over.
2. Courses start every Monday. When Monday is a public holiday, the course will start on Tuesday. The minimum course duration is 1 week (part-time
is 4 weeks).
3. Read all the information and the ‘Terms and Conditions’ carefully.
4. Complete the application form in as much detail as possible. Please provide us with your emergency contact details, addresses in your home country
and in the UK. Send it to the school with a photograph and a photocopy of your passport by post, by fax or by e-mail at least two weeks before your
arrival. Alternatively, you can book and pay via our website: http://www.manacad.co.uk/app.htm (direct students only).
5. The price of the course is shown on the price list. When you send your application form, please pay the full amount or a deposit of 25% of the course
fees and the registration fee. If you would like the Academy to arrange accommodation, we also require one week’s accommodation fee and the
accommodation booking fee. Please note that we try to match your requirements but some facilities (i.e. the internet) cannot be guaranteed
especially at short notice. By sending us your application form you are accepting all our terms and conditions applying to courses and accommodation
(please see below).
6. When we have received the application form and the full amount or deposit, we will send you an acceptance letter, visa support letter (if required)
and an invoice stating your fees and accommodation charges to be paid.
7. Your accommodation details will be sent to you once you have provided us with your arrival information (including date, time and flight number)
and your UK student visa application status has been confirmed (if applicable).
8. The full payment of the course fees and accommodation fees must be received no later than one week before the start of the course.
Send your completed application form and a photocopy of your passport to Manchester Academy of English together with your payment in full or a
deposit. The following payment methods are acceptable:
1. Credit card.
We accept VISA, Master Card and MAESTRO. The Card Holder will be asked to sign and fax back to us a Credit Card Authorisation Form if they are not
here in person.
2. Bank transfer.
We require a copy to be sent by email or fax, stamped by your bankers, for our records.
All bank charges must be paid in the country of origin. If you do not pay the UK bank charges, you will be asked to pay on arrival. Please give
your bank the following information:

3. Cheque.
A cheque in GB pounds sterling drawn on a British bank made payable to “Manchester Academy Tours Ltd”. We do not accept foreign
cheques or sterling cheques drawn on a foreign bank.
4. In Person at the Academy office: in cash, by credit card, by cheque in pounds sterling or by travellers’ cheques.

Terms and conditions
1. Student Registration
All courses must be booked in advance and where appropriate can be started on any Monday. You should send the stated deposit or full payment with
your application and a photocopy of your passport at least two weeks in advance of your arrival. Manchester Academy of English reserves the right to
cancel or change the course programme without prior notice.
2. Booking confirmation
a) On receipt of the completed application form and deposit, we will send you confirmation of the booking.
b) An invoice, acceptance letter and, if required, visa support letter will then be issued. These items will be faxed/emailed and posted.
c) Your accommodation and place on the course cannot be guaranteed unless a full payment has been received and your UK visa application status
has been confirmed.
3. Payment Methods
Full fees must be paid in Sterling currency at least one week before the course begins. You may pay by “Swift”, bank transfer, credit card, travellers’
cheques or cash. All bank charges must be paid in the country of origin. (Please see “How to Apply for a course”).
4. Cancellation Charges
a) The registration fee and accommodation booking fee are non-refundable.
b) If cancellation is due to a visa refusal, a refund will only be given when we have received official written confirmation of the visa refusal from the
Home Office or British Consulate/Embassy concerned. In the case of a visa refusal, we are notified up to a week before the course starts, we will
refund the deposit less registration fee and accommodation fee. If we are not notified of this a week before the course is due to start, other charges
will be incurred.
c) In case of other cancellations written evidence of the student’s inability to attend must be provided. Cancellation fees are as follows:

d) Students with one-to-one lessons need to give 24 hours’ notice of cancellation for the lesson to be re-arranged. No refund or re-arrangement will be
given for non-attended classes or when giving fewer than 24 hours’ notice.
e) If the student wishes to cancel the host family, they must give us one week’s notice.
f) If the student wishes to change the host family a £60.00 change fee will be incurred.
g) With regards to residential accommodation terms and conditions may vary. Please note that in some cases no refund might be possible and you may
not be able to shorten your stay in residence. Cancellations may be subject to a cancellation fee. Please refer to residence terms and conditions.
5. Postponement /Change Fee
You must give a minimum of one week’s notice if you are forced to postpone the start of your course. If such notice is not given the normal fees may be
charged. If you postpone more than once, a change fee of £60 will be charged.
6. Refunds
Courses cannot be changed or shortened. Tuition fees will not be refunded for early departure, absence or illness once a course has started. No refunds
or credit will be given for a reduction in previously booked hours. You are recommended to take insurance to cover this.
7. Attendance, absences and early departures
We would encourage all students to attend all classes and to make the most of their time at Manchester Academy of English. As a general rule 80% class
attendance is required. All attendance letters, progress reports and final certificates will be issued upon overall attendance of minimum of 80%.
In cases where a student’s visa has been granted on the basis of his/her studies at Manchester Academy of English, the Home Office will be immediately
notified should the student stop attending or discontinue. The school is duty bound to inform the Home Office of persistent non-attendance.
8. Policies on holidays
In order to receive holiday entitlement, students must be studying for a minimum of 10 weeks and must give 2 weeks’ notice. The course can be extended
and the period of absence must be for a full week.
9. Insurance
We strongly recommend that every student takes out insurance to cover such events as: cancellation or curtailment of the course booked due to serious
illness or accidental injury before your arrival; loss of personal effects; loss of passport or tickets; medical expenses and repatriation; personal liability
and personal accident. Failure to do so could cause serious problems in the case of an emergency.
For students staying in accommodation (homestay or residential) arranged by Manchester Academy of English, insurance covering personal liability is
highly recommended. If you do not have an insurance policy and an incident occurs, you will be responsible for all the costs incurred.
In the event of death or illness, we do not accept responsibility unless the cause is shown to be negligence by Manchester Academy of English or
Manchester Academy Tours Limited or its staff. We do not accept liability for loss of students’ property or for extra expense incurred by circumstances
outside our control including strikes, riots, war etc.
Please note that these conditions replace any earlier printed version.
10. If the student is under 18.
The person in charge of the student (father, mother, or guardian) will have to sign the application form and accept the points listed below:
1. I will allow my child to travel into Manchester by public transport.
2. I authorise my child to take part in all tourist, sporting and cultural activities.
3. The student can be treated in an emergency and a doctor has permission to carry out an emergency operation if required.
4. The guardian will pay the doctor’s/hospital bills for any treatment given.
5. The guardian will provide the school with a contact telephone number in case of emergencies.
6. Manchester Academy of English is not responsible for the student outside of scheduled activities and class times.
